Summary

The Telegraph

«Diana Gabaldon muestra magníficamente cómo los grandes acontecimientos no son historia para quienes los viven, sino simplemente la vida cotidiana。 [。。。] Es asombroso que este extenso y pormenorizado relato de la Guerra de la Independencia, tramado y poblado con tanta sofisticación, haya sido concebido y escrito sólo en siete años。»

This was a long wait and, yes, I was glad to get to spend time with the Outlander characters。 That said, I agree with other reviews that the series is lacking some steam since the demise of Jack Randall。 The main reason I continue to read the series is for Lord John Grey and his story。

Like visiting old friends。 Took my time reading because I wanted to savor the next part of the story。 So well written

2。5*Disappointing。 I enjoyed the first half of the book, but the pace slows down a lot halfway through and then I was bored silly。 I used to love this series, but the last 5 novels focus too much on the minute details of the revolutionary war。 I also think the author has run out of things to write about。 How many times can a person be shot, bitten by a snake, kidnapped, etc? Too many coincidences and reminiscing about events。 As a devoted Outlander fan, I have to say, I miss the energy and story 2。5*Disappointing。 I enjoyed the first half of the book, but the pace slows down a lot halfway through and then I was bored silly。 I used to love this series, but the last 5 novels focus too much on the minute details of the revolutionary war。 I also think the author has run out of things to write about。 How many times can a person be shot, bitten by a snake, kidnapped, etc? Diana greatWords matter。 DG makes every word matter。 Smells, sounds, feelings, emotions…。 Every book builds on love, heritage, culture, and a little magic。 The words make the magic。

It took me 3 months to finish this book。 Every other Outlander book I finished within a week or two。 Diana Gabaldon's writing is just as beautiful as ever and the characters so intensely interesting, however this story just did not stay connected。 I lost interest so many times and even read a few other books in between。 It took me 3 months to finish this book。 Every other Outlander book I finished within a week or two。 Diana Gabaldon's writing is just as beautiful as ever and the characters so intensely interesting, however this story just did not stay connected。 I lost interest so many times and even read a few other books in between。 。。。more

I am actually really impressed that she is able to keep all of the stories going (and interesting) after all this time。 These books don't hold the same allure that they did when it was just Jamie and Claire, but I still enjoy listening to the updated story lines。 I am actually really impressed that she is able to keep all of the stories going (and interesting) after all this time。 These books don't hold the same allure that they did when it was just Jamie and Claire, but I still enjoy listening to the updated story lines。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Actually I started the book in February 2022。 I take my time reading Outlander books to savor the story。 I enjoyed the format of the book and enjoyed reading about each couple。 I liked the way Diana bounced from one couple to another then back again。 I did NOT like the way the book ended。 I was enjoying the wedding then boom! Another character walks in and requests Jamie’s help and that’s the end??? Seriously? I mean I know why he needs help but to end the book so abruptly was not to my liking。 Actually I started the book in February 2022。 I take my time reading Outlander books to savor the story。 I enjoyed the format of the book and enjoyed reading about each couple。 I liked the way Diana bounced from one couple to another then back again。 I did NOT like the way the book ended。 I was enjoying the wedding then boom! I mean…It’s outlander so I loved it。 BUT holy slow start and weird ending。 I think this will be really fun to watch on the show though。

Great Story As UsualLoved the continuing story of Jamie and Claire。 Can't wait for the next one to come out。 I have heard that the next one will be the last so am now a bit fearful that the story is coming to an end, even thought we all know it must。 People do not live forever! I do recommend this to all Outlander lovers, readers, and followers。 Be prepared for the entire emotional spectrum! WowGreat glimpse into alternative history。 What if the British had won the revolutionary wars? The ending is perfect set up for book 10

This might be my favorite Outlander book! Which is good because I’m pretty sure I’m not going to like the next one。 She’s recycling some plot points that I didn’t like the first time she used them so I’m sure I won’t like them the second time around, either。

3。5 stars。 The stories are as fascinating as ever, but it’s been so long since the last book that I no longer feel invested in any of the auxiliary characters。 You can feel the impending doom of the upcoming war and she really knows how to create a setting。

Excellent book。 It is so disappointing when I have read the last pages。 I always feel this way reading her books。 Time passes slowly waiting for her new one。 Watch Outlander on Stars it follows the books。

I did enjoy being back in the Frasers’ world but good lord I wish the author would start listening to editors again。

4 1/2 ***The only reason this book did not get a perfect 5 is that some of the passages were overly long, insofar as describing gross medical conditions or procedures。 Most people don't need that much detail, although it does paint a vivid picture in your mind。 Otherwise it was very comforting to return to familiar characters that I have become attached to over the years and watch the story unfold。 4 1/2 ***The only reason this book did not get a perfect 5 is that some of the passages were overly long, insofar as describing gross medical conditions or procedures。 Most people don't need that much detail, although it does paint a vivid picture in your mind。 Otherwise it was very comforting to return to familiar characters that I have become attached to over the years and watch the story unfold。 。。。more

I don't even know where to begin?? It took Diana Gabaldon seven years to write this book, the first since the TV show began airing, and there is absolutely no sense to be made of it。 While it's true that the books after the first four (which is pretty generous, as book four itself certainly meanders), get fairly tedious in their story, there were always great Jamie and Claire moments to balance out the rest of the book that made the story feel more cohesive。 Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone is mo I don't even know where to begin?? It took Diana Gabaldon seven years to write this book, the first since the TV show began airing, and there is absolutely no sense to be made of it。 While it's true that the books after the first four (which is pretty generous, as book four itself certainly meanders), get fairly tedious in their story, there were always great Jamie and Claire moments to balance out the rest of the book that made the story feel more cohesive。 Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone is mostly devoid of these moments in favor of plots that move either too slowly to care or too quickly to even discern what's actively going on, despite reading passages and passages and passages about what is happening。 When I started reading The Fiery Cross for the first time, I thought for sure that no other Outlander book could possibly be that boring。 While I did have quite a few struggles with the subsequent books, usually getting stuck on a non-Claire or Jamie POV, the overall experience was fairly enjoyable。 This book however, has not been。 It truly makes me wonder if Gabaldon has an editor at all, because while I don't really think her books need to be as long as they are—especially the later ones—this one was at least 400 pages too many and still did not manage to find a thread that was at all entertaining AND had the audacity to put the only pivotal moments in the novel in the last 100 pages。 Said pivotal moments also happened to be ones that happened so quickly and glossed over that I couldn't really react to them in any way other than "well that sure did happen," because I was so exhausted from the lead up to it。 When I started this book, there was something about it that struck me as too influenced by the show; little name things and behaviors that characters did, I don't really know how to describe it other than a feeling。 After finishing the book this feeling is still there because, like the show often does, Gabaldon has written an Outlander in which Jamie and Claire come secondary to the various trials of their friends and family。 I could excuse some of this if Lord John had a bigger role to play because he actually has an interesting story as a character, when that story is allowed to be told。 But that is not how this book unfolded。 When looking back at the other books in the series, specifically 5-8, there are a lot of dull spots, but there are some fantastic Jamie and Claire moments that take place in between them。 This book has moments where it tries to do this, but, like the TV show, they fall flat from not having them (Jamie and Claire), as the story's anchor。 Go Tell the Bees feels very long and plotless and dry because of this。 I guess the one thing to be thankful for is that at least there's only one book left。 Since the TV show is likely to end before it is published, perhaps that will be enough time for Gabaldon to course correct。 As an unrelated aside, there is SO MUCH RELIGION in this one。 It's always been in them to an extent—the Jacobite uprising at Culloden is essentially a battle between a Catholic or Protestant Scotland—but holy shit (like, literally)。 It just struck me as strange, and another weird addition to this book that really pushed it toward dislike for me。 。。。more

Excellent, as are all the Outlander books。 I had a hard time getting into this one after such a long break from the series, but I stayed with it, and it paid off。 The good news。。。it's a cliffhanger, so that must mean another one! :) Excellent, as are all the Outlander books。 I had a hard time getting into this one after such a long break from the series, but I stayed with it, and it paid off。 The good news。。。it's a cliffhanger, so that must mean another one! :) 。。。more

Medical and cooking parts of the book are my favorite。 Claire is an amazing woman。 Well done。 The book transforms you to that time。 So descriptive and engaging。

This is so goodYes, we are all clamoring for Book 10, but stop and appreciate Book 9。 I have just finished my 3rd read of Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone。 It has everything books 1-8 have and what book 10 will probably have。 It is sweet and savory at the same time with the right amount of all reading genres。 I love the romance and the action。 I am in awe of the history and individual characters' claims to fame and fortune。 Just keep them coming Diana! As you can see from start to finish dates I took my sweet time reading this one。 Nine years is a long time to wait for a new installment, but the author doesn’t fail todeliver。 With the next book rumored as the last I’m excited to see where this this goes next and at the same time ok with the process of how long it will take to finally get into my hands and read。 Outside of the overuse of Claire saying “forsooth” throughout the book I was happy with each page I turned!

Laurie Koller

I have been a fan of her books from the beginning。 I loved it, but it ended like the last episode of a television season; it was a cliffhanger。 I am not sure I liked that kind of ending。

Kelly

At first I missed jumping through all the storylines, like the last book, but not to worry, it starts coming together in the last half。 Jamie and Claire seem indestructible but I know it can’t last forever。 I wish it would though。 Young Ian still my fave this time。 He needs his own spin off!

Gigi Gomes

Need to stew about this… took me along time to finish, partly because big hardcover is difficult to read in bed。 I had a hard time staying engaged at times but then also loved getting to know more of the characters。 Sigh…

I debated and would prefer a 4。5。 Though a delight to read there were parts that dragged。 8 kept me on the edge of my seat! 9 had me looking for a bit more action。 Nonetheless you NEVER want it to end。

Brenna Sullivan

There were some good aspects of this book, but I was bored overall。 889 pages and I was bored for half of them。 Not worth the seven year wait, in my opinion。

This was another great Outlander story。 It just never gets old。 it ended on a bit of a cliffhanger, which makes my heart happy because I know there will be another one。 We may have to wait for a while, but understandably so。 Masterpieces aren't written overnight。 It was read by the very talented Davina Porter。 She is one of the two top narrators I have ever listened to。 This was another great Outlander story。 It just never gets old。 it ended on a bit of a cliffhanger, which makes my heart happy because I know there will be another one。 We may have to wait for a while, but understandably so。 Masterpieces aren't written overnight。 It was read by the very talented Davina Porter。 She is one of the two top narrators I have ever listened to。 。。。more
